Mothers

Today is Mothers Day.

We can complain all day about how it's a commercial holiday and how we are guilted into spending ridiculous sums of money on a card, flower-grams, and brunches. But when you peel away the layers of the contrived commercial fluff that comes in hand with this day, what you are left with is something profound: the celebration of motherhood.

Describing the depth of the meaning of motherhood is beyond me. I could tell you about how hard it is or about how fulfilling it is or how life changing it is but you've heard it all before.

Being a mother is joyous, heart-wrenching, exhausting, messy, demanding, hilarious, exhilarating, moving, lonely, motivating, frustrating, riddled-with-guilt, sticky, smelly, wonderful, challenging, fast-paced, boring, enlightening, perspective-changing, constant-cooking, mistake-making, lesson-learning, daily-laundry, self-accepting, self-discovering, gut-following, nurturing, balancing-act, laboring, scatter-brained, do-what-you-gotta-do way of life.

Motherhood is all of these things and so much more.

It will teach you things about yourself you never knew existed.

I could tell you this path is not for the faint of heart. But it's really quite astounding the things your heart is capable of if you give it the chance to show you.

Today I want  to share with you a special collection of mothers. From my own mama, mother-in-law, my step-mom, as well as dear friends and wonderful clients that wear the title of "Mom, Ma, Mommy, Mama, Madre, and Mother". Today is for them.
